Mid Victorian 18ct gold, turquoise and seed pearl heirloom mourning ring

Mid Victorian 18ct gold, turquoise and seed pearl heirloom mourning ring
This exquisite circa early to Mid-Victorian mourning ring, likely an heirloom piece, embodies the sentimentality and craftsmanship of the 19th Century. It features a striking combination of turquoise and seed pearls, both symbols of love, protection, and purity. At its centre lies a glass compartment (which can be carefully removed and re-inserted) containing an intricately woven fragment of hair-work, a beautiful reminder of a cherished connection.
Measuring 2cm x 1.4cm, the ring is beautifully proportioned, with delicate detailing characteristic of Victorian and Georgian jewellery. The inside of the band is engraved with the name ‘Carol’ in cursive script. While this name was uncommon during the Victorian period, it suggests the ring may possibly have been treasured as an heirloom and personalised at a later time.
Turquoise and seed pearls were frequently used in mourning jewellery for their deep symbolic meanings, while the fine hairwork represents an enduring token of memory and love.
