Georgian mourning locket

£250.00
sold out

Georgian black enamel and star burst pendant necklace. Black enamel was a popular element in Victorian jewellery and often used in mourning jewellery. The starburst motif, a common Georgian and Victorian design, represents radiance, guidance, and protection. It signifies light shining through the darkness, embodying hope and inspiration.

This is engraved on the reverse with the date “1824”and a sentimental inscription devoted to a lost loved one. It also features a lift-out locket containing intricate hair-work, a cherished tradition of the era.

Please note, the enamel appears to be painted enamel rather than vitreous (hard-fired) enamel.

Presented on a 45cm gold filled chain.

Locket is 3.5cm x 2cm.
